Schriftatlas II, 3a

[The recto of folio 3 features two diagrams, one apparently superimposed upon the other at a later date. The first, rendered in black ink is redolent of Michelangelo’s human figure in cruciform inscribed in a circle, albeit inverted, so that the arms are below and the legs above; the head of the figure is missing. The second diagram, sketched in pencil upon the first, is not unlike the geometric grid of spheres and lines of the Sephirot, central to Cabalistic study; in Valaco’s rendering, a wedge has been excised from each sphere, with the resulting angles varying in their situation from one sphere to the next; the logic by which Valaco determined the precise position of each angle remains unclear.–Trans] (II, 3a)
